  • Portable extractors are more affordable and easier to maintain for smaller jobs.

Cons:

  • Long drying times (4–16 hours).

  • May require fans or extra dry passes to speed up the drying process.

Encapsulation Cleaning (Low Moisture/VLM)

How it Works:

  • Uses minimal water and encapsulating chemicals.

  • A rotating brush or bonnet machine agitates the solution into the carpet.

  • As the solution dries, it traps soil in crystals that can be vacuumed away.

Methods:

  • Dry foam, bonnet pads, oscillating pads, or dry compound.

  • Quick dry time (30–60 minutes) makes it ideal for routine maintenance.

Pros:

  • Fast drying, affordable, and great for routine or spot cleaning.

  • Some chemicals add protective coating to carpet fibers.

Cons:

  • May leave chemical residue.

  • Not as deep-cleaning as HWE—recommended to alternate with HWE every 3–4 Encap cleanings.

  • Choose HWE for deep cleaning, stains, pet messes, and full carpet restorations.

  • Choose Encap for regular maintenance, quick jobs, and when working with a limited budget.
